One of two never before worn, vault stock items.
Classic Zuni Vintage Cuff circa 1976-78.
Measures 1/2 wide, 2 1/4" across, just under 2" deep.
Collector's edition.
Effie Calavaza is a Zuni silversmith whose work has captured the hearts of many collectors. She was born in 1928 and started making jewelry in the 1950s. She learned from her husband, Juan, and for many years they both signed their work "Juan C. Zuni." Upon his death in 1970, she began signing her work "Effie C. Zuni." She is still doing some silverwork, though she has passed several of her designs down to her daughters. She is one of the few Zuni silversmiths in the business who everyone seems to know. The work of Calavaza is easily identified by her recurring symbolism – a snake portrayed in her jewelry. In Zuni belief, the snake is a positive sign of rebirth and renewal.
