Kenneth Bunn, a Denver, Colorado sculptor and a longtime participant in the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition & Sale, was chosen to design the commemorative Prix de West Medallion for the 2001 show. He also designed the medallion for the 1992 exhibition.
Bunn is noted for his animal sculptures and as an artist, he seeks to capture the implied action of his subjects by creating sculptures that will prolong or increase motion. To communicate the suggestions of movement and life, he will extend an animal's leg or alter reality in some other way that will allow viewers to perceive the work's meaning.
For the 2001 medallion, Bunn was inspired by a lynx, an animal that has often been the subject of many of his sculptures. Bunn's sculptures are included in the collections at the Royal Ontario Museum, Gilcrease Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, the Columbus, Ohio Museum of Art, and the Denver, Colorado Art Museum.
He is an Academician of the National Academy of Design and a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society. At the 1997 Prix de West Invitational, he received the Frederic Remington and Robert Lougheed Awards for his sculpture.
