The 2012 Prix de West Collectors’ Bolo was designed by acclaimed wildlife sculptor Tim Cherry. Featuring a stylized American bison, the bronze reflects Cherry’s distinctive approach to wildlife sculpture, in which simplified lines and flowing forms capture the character and movement of his subjects. Cherry chose the bison for its enduring connection to the American West and its powerful history of survival and renewal.
Cherry has a distinguished history with Prix de West. His sculpture Snake in the Grass received the James Earle Fraser Sculpture Award in 2001, recognizing his contribution to contemporary Western sculpture. He is also a recipient of the National Sculpture Society’s Gold Medal. For the 2012 Collectors’ Bolo, Cherry brought his highly recognizable sculptural language to one of the defining symbols of the West, creating a wearable work that combines contemporary wildlife art with the enduring tradition of Prix de West.
The Collectors' Bolo tradition began in 1986.
