The 2019 Prix de West Collectors’ Bolo was designed by acclaimed Texas artist Bruce R. Greene. The bronze depicts a bucking horse, a subject particularly suited to Greene’s lifelong connection to ranching and the contemporary cowboy. A member of the Cowboy Artists of America since 1993, Greene has built his career around portraying the realities of working Western life with firsthand knowledge and authenticity. He has ridden and worked on historic Texas ranches including the JA and Four Sixes, experiences that continue to inform his paintings and sculpture.
Greene’s relationship with Prix de West is especially distinguished. In 2018, he received the Donald Teague Memorial Award for a work of exceptional merit on paper, and the following year he was selected to design the 2019 Prix de West Collectors’ Bolo. That same year, Greene received the Cowboy Artists of America’s Anne W. Marion Best of Show Award, Buyers’ Choice Award, and Gold Medal in Sculpture, marking an exceptional period of recognition in his career.
The 2019 bolo brings Greene’s knowledge of horses and ranch life into the enduring tradition of Prix de West Collectors’ Bolos. Its dynamic subject reflects the energy of the working West while offering a wearable example of an artist celebrated for preserving the "authentic essence of the contemporary cowboy" through his art.
The Collectors' Bolo tradition began in 1986.
