About the Artist: John Moyers

Hometown: Riverside, California
4 Pieces in Show
35 Years in Exhibition

John Moyers grew up in an artistic environment in New Mexico and counts his father, the well-known painter and illustrator William Moyers, as his first role model. That early tutoring and encouragement set the stage for a number of academic experiences that gave Moyers a passionate desire to paint.

Moyers and his artist wife, Terri Kelly Moyers, both consider 1979 to be a turning point in their approach to art. Moyers had been working in animation studios in California, but decided to devote his career to fine art. He went to the Okanagan Game Farm in Penticton, British Columbia, to study animals and paint from real life. While there, he met his future wife. The couple has studied with master artists including Robert Lougheed, J. Noel Tucker, and Ramon Froman. John Moyers has also studied at the California Institute for the Arts and the Laguna Beach School of Art.

In 2003, Moyers won the Robert Lougheed Memorial Award at the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition. At the 2012 Prix de West, he won the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award for A Fish Out of Water.
