Vivid Kingman Turquoise and rich red coral come together in these striking multi-stone drop earrings, handcrafted by Navajo husband-and-wife silversmiths Mary and Everett Teller. Three teardrop shaped Kingman Turquoise stones are paired with small red coral beads topped by a smaller round Kingman bead at the top, creating a colorful, rhythmic design that moves beautifully when worn. Sterling silver beads and French hooks complete the look while adding a subtle touch of shine.
Kingman Turquoise comes from the historic turquoise deposits of the Cerbat Mountains in northwestern Arizona, near Kingman. Indigenous peoples mined turquoise in the area long before European contact, and the district remains one of the most recognized sources of American turquoise. Kingman is prized for its vibrant blue color and distinctive natural matrix, which ranges from dark and webbed to lighter, more subtle markings. Each stone in these earrings has its own natural variations, making the pair uniquely individual.
The earrings are accented with red precious coral, a natural material prized for centuries for its rich color and smooth, polished surface. Precious red coral used in jewelry is the calcium carbonate skeleton of slow-growing coral colonies, most notably Corallium rubrum from the Mediterranean. Harvesting is regulated because of the coral's slow growth and ecological vulnerability; Mediterranean management measures include restrictions on harvesting depth, colony size, and collection methods.
Mary and Everett Teller are self-taught Navajo silversmiths whose work reflects a clean, contemporary approach to traditional Native American jewelry. The Tellers have been creating jewelry for more than two decades, carefully selecting natural stones including turquoise, coral, oyster shell, lapis, and onyx. Their work is known for precise craftsmanship and, in many pieces, their distinctive hand-stamped storm-pattern designs. They have exhibited their work in galleries and at prestigious Native art events including the Heard Museum and Santa Fe Indian Market.
