Oval Kingman and Royston Turquoise Scalloped Edge Lariat Necklace by Teller Indian Jewelry

A striking study in Southwestern craftsmanship, this lariat necklace by Teller Indian Jewelry pairs seven oval turquoise stones with beautifully detailed sterling silverwork. Alternating shades of vivid blue and blue-green give the necklace a naturally varied character, while each stone is framed by layers of hand-finished scalloped silver, rope-like accents, and delicate stamped details. The open lariat design lends the piece an elegant drape, with a substantial two-stone drop that draws the eye toward the center.

The necklace features both Kingman and Royston turquoise, two celebrated American turquoise sources with distinctly different personalities. Kingman turquoise, mined in the Cerbat Mountains of northwestern Arizona, is renowned for its brilliant blue color and broad range of natural matrix patterns. The deposit has been worked for turquoise since long before European contact, with commercial production dating to the late 19th century.

From Nevada's Royston district come stones with a more varied palette of blue, green, and golden-brown matrix. Turquoise mining in the district dates to 1902, when work began at the Royal Blue Mine, and the area's material is known for its range from pale blue to deep sky blue and its distinctive mineral matrix.

The necklace was crafted by husband and wife silversmiths Everett and Mary Teller. The Tellers are Navajo/Diné artists whose work is recognized for its finely worked sterling silver, intricate stampwork, overlay, and stone-setting. 

With its combination of richly colored American turquoise, elaborate scalloped silverwork, and graceful lariat silhouette, this is a necklace with presence, equally at home layered over a simple blouse or worn as the centerpiece of a more polished Western look.
