About the Artist: Tony Angell

Tony Angell’s artistic career has spanned more than half a century, within which he has carved and created his stone and bronze sculptures and written and/or illustrated more than 15 books on
natural history subjects.

Many of Angell’s works have received awards both nationally and internationally including the National Outdoor Book Award for his book The House of Owls and the Victoria and Albert Illustration Award for In the Company of Crows and Ravens, both published by Yale University Press.

His stone and bronze monuments are part of public spaces throughout the Pacific Northwest and included in museum collections throughout the United States and Europe.

Angell maintains a studio on Lopez Island in Washington’s Salish Sea. The wild and remote location of this retreat is the primary source and inspiration for his work.
