19 Years in Exhibition

Howard Post is recognized for his unique interpretation of the American West. He grew up on a small ranch near Tucson in southern Arizona and attended the University of Arizona, completing his bachelor’s and master’s in fine arts.

In the 1970s, Post worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for a variety of clients throughout the United States. After serving on the faculty at both the University of Arizona and Arizona State University, Post began painting full time “scenes of the West that I grew up with.”

In addition to receiving the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award from the 2010 Prix de West, Post received the 2010 and 2012 Victor Higgins Award of Distinction from the Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West Art Show and the 2012 Painting Gold Medal from the Phoenix Art Museum’s West Select show. Post was chosen to receive the Eiteljorg Museum’s 2018 Artist of Distinction Award and One-Man Exhibition. Also in 2018, a 40-year retrospective of Post’s work was featured at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia; the Tucson Museum of Art; and the Desert Caballeros Western Art Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona.
