A dramatic White Buffalo cabochon takes center stage in this distinctive sterling silver Naja pendant by Teller Indian Jewelry. The elongated stone displays a striking natural contrast of creamy white and deep black matrix, framed within an open Naja silhouette. Intricately stamped and twisted silverwork follows the curved form, while scalloped silver accents and small starburst details add dimension and visual interest. The substantial bail features additional hand-worked detailing and is generously sized for a variety of chains and cords.
White Buffalo is prized for its bold black-and-white appearance and is frequently used in Southwestern and Native American jewelry. Although it is sometimes marketed as “White Buffalo Turquoise,” White Buffalo is not technically turquoise; it does not contain the copper responsible for turquoise’s characteristic blue and green colors. Its dramatic matrix patterns are entirely natural, making each cabochon unique. The stone’s name also brings to mind the revered white buffalo, an important figure in the traditions of several Plains peoples, though the stone itself should not be confused with a traditional sacred object.
This pendant was created by Teller Indian Jewelry, the family studio of Navajo silversmiths Mary and Everett Teller and their son Travis. The Tellers are self-taught artists who have been creating jewelry for more than two decades, developing a recognizable style that combines natural stones with detailed hand-stamped silverwork. Their work frequently incorporates their distinctive storm-pattern designs and has been exhibited at respected Native American art markets and galleries, including the Heard Museum and Santa Fe Indian Market.
