Navajo Pearl Necklace with Kingman Turquoise Cross Pendant by Delbert Secatero
Navajo Pearl Necklace with Kingman Turquoise Cross Pendant by Delbert Secatero
This gorgeous necklace features a Naja with three pieces of Kingman turquoise atop an equal-armed cross on a strand of Navajo Pearls. Navajo Pearls are traditionally made sterling silver beads. Silver beads are a traditional art form for Diné silversmiths, and the beads have as many expressions as there are artisans. Making the beads is a time-consuming process. Each bead begins with silver that has to be melted, rolled and cut.
“Naja” is the name the Navajo gave to a symbol believed to have originated in the Middle East in ancient times. Like some many symbols, it was created as a talisman for protection, with the Moors affixing it to their horses' bridles to ward off the evil eye.
The Kingman Turquoise Mine is one of the oldest and highest producing Turquoise Mines in America. It was originally discovered by prehistoric Indians well over 1000 years ago. Kingman Turquoise is known for its beautiful bright blue color and produces many variations of blue turquoise.
Dimensions: Necklace is 24" end to end, Naja is 3 1/2" high including bail, 2 1/2" wide.
